Though I’m so often out on safari over the holiday times, we still manage to bring the family together over this time as best we can. For December, this included trekking in to see the Great Apes in the forests of Uganda. Together with old friends from Australia, both our families revelled in the adventure and excitement of their first ever viewings of habituated chimpanzees and gorillas. For me, I got to experience my own kids and our friends immerse into this forested world, and enjoy it all through their eyes – such a thrill!
Following the Christmas safaris, the family reunited along the Kenya coast, at Watamu. Swimming with dolphins, evenings sailing the Indian ocean on the traditional Swahili sailing dhows. And great reconnecting with so many friends, especially for the kids who saw so many of their old school mates.
